Mont Blanc
Cathedral of Ice
About the work
At the summit, the incredible positioning of the mountains adds unparalleled depth to the landscape. Le Chardonnet, la Verte, les Drus, Mont Blanc... How can one not marvel at such splendor? This piece is an indelible memory of the panorama I witnessed from the Aiguille du Tour. Our journey begins. Between shadow and light, the border between France and Switzerland reveals itself, natural and mysterious. Beyond the peaks that guide our eyes from peak to peak, Le Chardonnet sparkles with its Forbes ridge. In February, a furious storm had raged for several days, leaving a transformed landscape. The wind, continuing to sweep the needles, sculpts the rock. It drapes the summits in an unreal aura. Small rocky beaks dot the ridges, a distinctive sign of the Mont Blanc massif. These points, repeated from the foreground to the background, infuse the work with unparalleled depth, as if arranged by destiny.
I defy the Alpine skies for these unique moments. To capture this morning light that lengthens shadows and reveals unsuspected details on the rocks. In this photograph, every detail is a word. Each play of shadows, an added stanza to the ode to the Alps. Witness to a changing landscape, where glaciers recede and rocks fall, the mountain remains unchanging in its splendor. And I, humble photographer, am its fervent admirer.
