Mont Blanc
Tempestuous Ascent
About the work
In this panoramic photograph, Mont Blanc reveals its western face. Located in Italy, it is the wildest and steepest face. The normal route silhouettes itself on the left, while on the right the Brouillard ridge tears the horizon apart. From Pointe Baretti, culminating at 4013 metres, we cross Mont Brouillard and Pointe Louis Amédée, which rise to 4069 and 4460 metres respectively. Our ascent continues through stormy weather, to Courmayeur and then to Mont Blanc, both of which are subjected to the fury of the elements. An exceptional adventure in the massif to reach, after several days of effort, the highest point in the Alps.
This panorama of Mont Blanc evokes the exacerbated power of nature. We're in the middle of a storm. Violent winds sweep across the ridges. Howling against the snowy cliffs. Clouds cling to summits like glowing lava covering the rocks. In the high mountains, we're just passing guests. Happy when nature welcomes us. But all it takes is a cloud, a gust of wind or a few snowflakes to change the landscape. Then it's time for us to get out of the way, to prevent our climb from turning into a tragedy. For nature decides our fate. So derisory in view of the thousand-year history of these rock giants. The mountain is transformed by the daily consequences of our presence on earth. So let's contemplate them while we still can. Adorned in a mantle of snow and adorned with incredible glaciers. This is the fiery beauty I like to capture in my photographs.
