The mountain peaks at an altitude of 4078 meters above Grindelwald, in the bernese alps. I've always been guided by a deep and tenacious desire to take a portrait of Europe's highest summits . To capture their soul, to reveal their personality. To highlight its regal stature and unchanging splendor, I chose to place the Schreckhorn at the center of the picture. Without any other mountain in the vicinity, without the presence of its brother, the Lauteraarhorn. The work is entirely devoted to it. Alone, it rips through the sky and dominates the horizon.

I took this photograph of the Schreckhorn in spring, after a major snowstorm. In this part of the Alps, clouds are often non-existent or move up to higher altitudes, covering summits. But on this particular day, I was lucky. After years of waiting for this moment, the scene I'd been dreaming of was finally played out. A sea of clouds appeared at an altitude of 3,600 metres, giving summit the freedom to spread its wings beyond our world. With a happy spirit and a trembling heart, all I had to do was freeze this moment of grace for all eternity.

In this masterly portrait, the east face of the Schreckhorn shines in the sunlight, while its austere north face remains in shadow. The mountain reveals its lines, sublimated by the snow freshly deposited on its walls. New textures emerge as we contemplate it. The print large-format photograph offers a new view of summit.
