Hidden treasures of the Alpine valleys, the Stralhorn and Rimpfischhorn reveal their splendor in the intimacy of an autumn morning. This black-and-white photograph captures these two iconic summits of the Valais Alps, silent sentinels between the legendary valleys of Zermatt and Saas-Fee. Proudly rising above 4,000 meters, they are adorned with an immaculate veil, the first winter adornment laid down by autumn storms.

The Stralhorn offers itself generously to the eye, a summit relatively accessible to mountaineers. Alongside it, the Rimpfischhorn reveals itself with more restraint, less frequented but infinitely more captivating for the beauty of its chiselled ridge and slender silhouette. In the foreground, the glaciers tell their age-old story to anyone who will listen. The crevasses, barely veiled by the first autumn snow, bear witness to the gradual and worrying retreat of these giants of ice. The moraines visible beneath the white mantle precisely trace the contours of a bygone glacial past. Fresh snow, like precious lace, covers this dramatic transformation while subtly revealing it to the attentive eye.
