Mont Blanc
The Hat
About the work
On this very special day, I set off to discover the Alps and its most grandiose landscapes. In the twilight of a gray day, shrouded in mist and doubt, I decided to bivouac. I had just set up camp when, all of a sudden, the clouds in front of me began to break. The sea of mist that had invaded the sky slowly lowered, revealing the Queen Mountain. Mont Blanc in majesty and, to its left, its servant, the magnificent Mont Maudit. As night fell, I put off preparing my meal to grab my camera. I set it up to best capture the fleeting glimmer of a sleeping sun. Last echoes of the day on the high glaciers of the lord of the Alps. A 30-second exposure allows the photograph to smooth out the movements of a still turbulent mist.
How fortunate I was to be able to contemplate the dazzling work of a daring natural world. What a thrill to see this otherworldly lenticular cloud appear above Mont Blanc! A sublime aureole caressing the summit of a legendary mountain. It was as if the sky was paying homage to the grandeur of the Alps and their mad beauty.
Among the photographs I took that evening, I offer you this work. For the balance of its forms and the harmony of its clouds. For its astonishing depth and the purity of its soul. For the splendor of its seracs and eternal snows. As I rested on its flanks, sheltered from the violent winds, the mountain revealed its infinite beauty. I was pursuing the wonderful dream of one day reaching the summit of Mont Blanc. And with a burning desire, I created this work. Two years later, in 2016, I finally climbed the famous Mont Blanc. Vibrating at summit with so many emotions. I was standing at the highest point of the Alps, as if on the edge of heaven, yet so close to the surrounding mountains. An unforgettable and moving encounter with the King of the Alps.
