Overlooking the Lower Engadine valley, Mount Torwache rises to an altitude of 3184 metres in the Swiss Alps. A flamboyant peak reaching for the sky, the mountain awakens to the whiteness of the spring winds. It displays its might and grandeur. A bastion of gleaming gneiss seen from the heights of Klosters resort.

I took this black-and-white photograph of the Torwache at sunrise. Just as the threatening shadows of the sky are about to engulf the mountains of the Silvretta massif once again. In the distance, two giants emerge, Gross Litzner and Gross Seehorn, whose shapes echo those of the Torwache.

With this work, I pay homage to the strength of the mountains. To the verticality of the Alps that link the Earth to the celestial spheres. This portrait of the Torwache exudes the strength and serenity of the summits that inspire me. When I go to meet the high mountains, I try to find the perfect angle. One that honors their history and highlights their intense beauty. See here how their silhouettes fit together. They echo each other, call out to each other and, together, rise invulnerable beyond the world. I love the balance born of their momentum. I love the presence of the Torwache, Gross Litzner and Gross Seehorn, which makes this picture a vibrant ode to the Eastern Alps.
