Imperial Crown
Panorama of an Alpine Majesty
About the work
I shot this incredible panorama in the spring, after a spell of high mountain precipitation. A few residual clouds cover the valley leading to the Mountet hut. Perhaps they hang on to honor the past majesty of the Zinal glacier, now almost reduced to nothing. Here, black and white give way to silver hues. The soft contrasts highlight the splendid details of these Valais giants. In this photograph, I wanted to highlight the grandeur and purity of the Imperial Crown's reliefs. The bottom of val d’Anniviers is a wild paradise where nature reigns supreme. No housing or ski lifts disturb the ecosystem. Only a few high mountain refuges allow brave mountaineers access to summits. At the frontier between two worlds, val d’Anniviers leads inexorably to adventure.
