Weisshorn
King of the Alps
About the work
In this panoramic photograph, the Weisshorn is surrounded by its own people. On its left, the Lagginhorn, the Weissmies, the Nadelgrat, the Dom and the Täschhorn, and on its right theAllalinhorn, the Rimpfischhorn and the Strahlhorn dominate the Saas-Fee valley at an altitude of over 4,000 metres. At the heart of the work, the Weisshorn unfurls its ridges. From Bishorn, they guide us through the Grand Gendarme to summit. Our gaze then continues its journey, balanced on the Schaligrat. The emblematic mountain of val d’Anniviers, the Weisshorn has fascinated me ever since we first met. Ever since the day I climbed it via its northern ridge, it has haunted my thoughts.
On this early winter afternoon, the mountains, bleached white by the fury of the winds, are gradually being reborn under a radiant sun. A moment of splendor and grace before nature's metamorphosis. It's up to me to capture this evanescence, this breath of beauty. A reminiscence of a world where all was grandeur and purity. But how do you immortalize the snow-covered high mountains? Avalanches lurk, ice tumbles. Danger is everywhere in the heart of winter. To paint a portrait of the Weisshorn in majesty, I have no other solution than to take to the skies. To go and meet it by helicopter, beyond the clouds and across the Alps. I fly and photograph for you this sumptuous panorama, this timeless and marvellous view of the Swiss Alps.
I love the softness of the light as it brushes against the mountains, giving them life. I love the subtlety of the contrasts that dare to temper the ardor of summits. I love the intensity that emerges from this work, giving the Weisshorn all its grandeur.
