Celestial adventure at summit on Weissmies, a famous mountain in the Valais Alps, rising to 4017 meters in the Saas Fee valley. This black-and-white photograph invites us to follow a fantastic path through the mist. Between light and shadow, the north ridge of the Weissmies guides us up to the sky. How could we not want to reach these heights? Yet it's when the mountain is at its most beautiful that it's at its most dangerous. And in these extreme conditions, it is inaccessible. Take a look at summit and you'll see the spontaneous departure of a slab that triggers an avalanche. And how many other traps does the Weissmies conceal beneath its sparkling finery? It's impossible to climb it, but to contemplate it is quite a journey.

I was lucky enough to climb the mountain via its northern ridge in the summer of 2023. It's during the warm season that climbers come face to face with the highest summits. And even though Gilles Sierro opened a new route on the Weissmies in April 2023, its ridge is generally practised in the dry. Photography, on the other hand, offers every freedom. This is how I dream of the mountain. Pure and majestic, sovereign from another world. The Weissmies is not so easy to photograph. Surrounded by gigantic summits and less prominent than its neighbors, I had to be patient to find the angle that would reveal its incredible presence.

On this winter's morning, dawn illuminates its eastern slope, while its northern face remains in shadow. The landscape is still shrouded in mist, and the soft silvery tones reveal the many details of its snow-covered walls. For a few hours, the mountain's soul seems laid bare, until the sun's rays erase what the winds have sculpted during the night. An ephemeral work of wilderness that touches our hearts.
