The Zinalrothorn
Glacier Memory
About the work
This work immortalizes a rare moment: the Zinalrothorn freshly covered in a blanket of snow deposited by violent winds. On this day, the mountain imposes a presence that is both fierce and inaccessible. No man has yet dared to set foot on it, as the mountain refuses access to its summit. We'll have to wait several days before we can imagine climbing the Zinalrothorn again.
Through this photograph, I celebrate the immensity of the glaciers, the impressive seracs and deep crevasses, visible signs of the Zinalrothorn's majesty and immoderation. Unfortunately, every year these glaciers retreat, revealing new and irreversible fault lines. Faced with this reality, my work becomes a duty: to pass on to future generations the image of a mountain still covered in ice, a silent witness to a heritage we thought would last forever. May this photograph remain a precious souvenir of an Alpine kingdom made of ice and rock, a reminder of the fragile splendor we must protect and admire while there is still time.
