The Giant's Confluence
About the work
Bringing this photograph to life was no mean feat. It's winter. As the sun declines, the sky finally breaks after the passage of a snowstorm. Amid very strong winds, I fly over the mountain in a helicopter. I have to be quick, seize the moment, the spectacle that nature offers me, before reaching the valley. A timeless journey to meet these fabulous peaks and their sublime glaciers. I'm transported by emotions, but I have to remain vigilant to changing weather conditions and nature's will. For in this afterlife, I'm just a passing guest. Imagine how small we are in the face of mountains over 4,000 meters high. It takes climbers at least two days to reach summit.
Immersing my gaze in this work of art brings me so many emotions. I love the interplay of intersecting ridges and planes that link together to give the painting an incredible dimension. The softness of the evening light endows the photograph with a bewitching depth. With the clouds hanging over summits and the sky very full, the dramatic intensity of the scene is palpable. The way is open to that heavenly realm where the snows are eternal.
