Zumsteinspitze and Gnifetti Point
Dialogue of Light and Shadow
About the work
The Zumsteinspitze, with its slender summit at 4563 metres above sea level, offers a striking contrast. Its western face lights up with a final warm ray, while the Italian face, facing east, remains in shadow, revealing the dramatic power of its hanging glaciers. Further on, Pointe Gnifetti, also known as Signalkuppe, boasts the famous Cabane Margherita. Perched at 4554 metres, this is the highest alpine hut and defies the elements with serenity. On these snow-covered walls, recent precipitation has shaped delicate ripples that add a refined texture to this extreme high-altitude landscape. On the right, the thin ridge of the Parrotspitze, named after Johann Jakob Friedrich Wilhelm Parrot, a 19th-century German physicist and physician, lends a graphic elegance to this panoramic composition.
I captured this precise moment, the last light of autumn, to emphasize the depth and singular identity of these summits , which are often photographed as part of a larger whole. This exceptional portrait also offers a fascinating view of the mythical traverse route linking the Pointe Gnifetti to the Dufourspitze, the highest summit in the Swiss Alps. This work of art will transport you to these high alpine lands, awaken your imagination and invite you to contemplate or, who knows, to embark on future adventures to the summits.
