A titanic pyramid, the Dent Blanche rises between the Val d'Hérens and the Zermatt valley, in the heart of the Valais Alps. I captured the photograph just as the storm was about to engulf the summit. Dark, threatening clouds were already announcing the imminent violence of the elements. I took this portrait of the Dent Blanche in 2017. Here, the mountain takes on the appearance of a Himalayan giant. Light and shadow clash on the steep slopes, bringing out the smallest details with astonishing clarity. This splendor, as spectacular as it is ephemeral, only lasts a few minutes. For this thin layer of fresh snow, delicately deposited on the rocks, is even more fragile than the glaciers nestling at its feet.

An emblematic mountain for steep skiers, the Dent Blanche Blanche's most vertical faces have been traversed by outstanding skiers such as Gilles Sierro and Vivian Bruchez on the south-west face, and Paul Bonhomme on the south-east face. These impressive feats testify to the daring required to tackle these slopes.
