Bertol's teeth
Alpine Power
About the work
I've been looking forward to this moment for days, sitting in the Bertol hut, waiting for the storm to subside. The mountain often plays on my patience, hiding its splendor behind its veil of clouds. But on this day, it finally agreed to reveal itself. The threatening clouds, still tormented by the storm's breath, only accentuated the immaculate purity of the snow freshly fallen on these stone giants. Light and shadow dance on the sharp edges of the Dents de Bertol. A graceful waltz that sculpts the ridges, reveals the asperities of the rock and magnifies every mineral detail. I love this striking duality - the abrupt harshness of the rock faces against the velvety softness of the snowy mantle. A contrast that only photography can truly capture in all its depth. The Dents de Bertol stand like a work of art shaped by time, a natural cathedral whose spires pierce the Valais sky. Their razor-sharp silhouettes cut through the sky with a sharp, graphic and striking clarity. That day, I felt the raw power of the mountain, that primitive force that reminds us of our humble place in the world order.
This color portrait of the Dents de Bertol also bears witness to the increasing fragility of our alpine ecosystems. These summits that I love so much are now suffering from the vagaries of an increasingly unstable climate. Each photograph thus becomes a treasure, the memory of a fleeting moment when the perfect balance between the elements is still available to us. Through my art, I try to capture and preserve this ephemeral harmony, to freeze for eternity the sublime meeting of mineral and celestial.
