Nordend
the glow of a celestial edge
About the work
The Nordend rises from the shadow of the clouds. Its crenellated ridge forms a sharp, precise line, like a jagged saw reaching for the sky. Clad in an armor of ice, it stands firm. Invincible giant, guardian of the Alpine frontier. Watching it like this, I am reminded of the imperishable memory of my ascent - the last Swiss summit of over 4,000 meters that I climbed. The culmination of a personal quest, the culmination of a passion.
This work inspires me as much as it moves me. The dynamics of its lines, the power of its contrasts and the softness of its greys. The ultimate emotion and sense of accomplishment. For here, Nordend is in the grip of the sky's frenzy. The light, at once powerful and gentle, delicately skims the snow-covered ridge and reveals every detail of the rock. The contrast between the brilliant clarity of the snow and the dark hardness of the rock faces accentuates the impression of power that emanates from the summit. The light, almost vaporous mist envelops the giant, lending it an atmosphere both mysterious and ethereal. To the left, our gaze is naturally guided towards the Nordend summit , while the lower, more discreet Italian Alps are delicately outlined in the background.
For a fleeting moment, the mountain sparkles like a diamond in the rough. But as its dark rock reappears before my eyes, the dream remains engraved at the heart of my work. Faced with it, time stands still and memories flood in. In this painting is inscribed not only the beauty of a summit, but the story of a life dedicated to the mountains, the culmination of a journey between heaven and earth where each ascent forges the soul of the photographer as much as that of the mountaineer.
